National hand gun ban makes being a criminal much.....safer?

After watching the CBC documentary "The Fifth Estate" discussing the case of a creepy Canadian Colonel who murders this woman in her home I couldn't help but think what a waist that this scum bag lived & she had to die. What if she simply had a gun?

The only gun Ive ever owned is a pellet gun I had as a kid, and it was a pretty popular item back then. No one I know lost an eye surprisingly enough. Growing up in a small town surrounded by nature gave us some freedoms the city kids never had. There was a respect & an understanding that if I bounced a pellet off a kids back side....they would return the favor. You get what you give.

I came across this ridiculous YouTube video of David Miller, Mayor of Toronto proposing a national ban on hand guns in Canada & I just had to rant.

If you took time to watch the video , for dramatic effect Mayor Miller has listed off every possible victim of gun violence in the family tree excluding the the neighbors hamster, promising mothers that he will do everything in his power to stop senseless handgun violence. In a perfect world that would be great ...... if it weren't for the many other ways to be violently victimized .

Explain to a woman, perhaps a single mother... who was raped at knife point why she should not have a hand gun close by to defend herself. The war vet in a wheel chair who lost his legs in Afghanistan who was mugged, who's only defense was to cover his face with his hands. The retired seniors who are helplessly beaten & left to die in their own bed while they are robbed.

The Mayor or Toronto goes on to say...."Every country in the world that has strict gun laws, has lower rates of homicide......(PAUSE)....by gun". You have to ask ....did the those same countries have higher rates of homicide......(PAUSE)........by knife, crossbow, poison blow darts perhaps?

Then he mentions those same countries with strict gun laws have a lower rate of suicide, accidental death & domestic violence.....caused by hand guns.....well DUH!!!! Rope is cheap, people still get hit by buses & there's at least a rolling pin or a wooden spoon in every kitchen. A criminal will use the best available option. If they can't find a gun, they will use the next best thing. Would you ban down filled pillows because of a smothering risk?

Were there any stats revealing that with strict gun laws there were less violent criminals killed in self defense? I personally wouldn't mind an increase in gun deaths if it were the criminals getting killed.

You expect us all to wear Kevlar & learn Kung Fu? You wan't us to call 9-11 ten minutes before we get attacked so you can save us? You want to remove any risks or danger to the criminal? The only certain risks criminals have on average.... are getting caught by the police & going to jail ....if they get caught. Chances are they probably don't consider time in jail all that much worse that the lives they already live. What is it the criminal has to lose these days?

Criminals don't have to worry or have second thoughts about kicking a door in because it is likely the victim will be un-armed. Other than a big mean dog there is no deterrent.

So Mr. David Miller, Mayor of Toronto, you have your job because ....your supposed to be the smart one, your comments can be summarized by simply saying.......
  • The criminal will always have the upper hand where there is strict gun control.
  • Hiring more police won't prevent a murder.
  • Those countries with strict gun laws haven't reduced the rate of murder, violent acts, accidents, or suicides.....although the tools used are less efficient ...they are way more interesting.
  • You might make it tougher for criminals to get guns, but they will still get guns accept they will be in higher demand, cost more and create wealthy gun smugglers.

As things are now, there are no limits to what the violent criminal has access to in the order of weapons. This will never change. A drug addicted violent offender doesn't care about the laws, your kids or your life.

Allow trained, licensed , law abiding taxpayers access to the tools they need to defend themselves & loved ones from an attacker. Toughen up the laws & create REAL incentives not to do the crime. If someone must die during a violent attack, if given the choice....I would home my government would want the criminal taken down in order to spare lives of the innocent. Its a shame that under the current system that someone must die because they obeyed the laws the criminal does not follow.

Willing to wear the electronic leash? Will you have a choice?

I'm not comfortable with the future outlook of being monitored with every move I make. Essentially it will come down to becoming corporate slaves ..."Obey & comply or be punished". Banks, insurance companies, corporations, government all working together, looking for every possible way to squeeze every dollar out of you while keeping you on a leash. Using their wealth & power to always have an edge over the little guy who is to busy & distracted with earning a dollar, paying the bills & looking after family in the ever growing rat race.
You may be too focused on your inner beauty to take the outside world seriously but just like the grazing sheep in a farmers field, the last one to see the wolf is the 1st one to get eaten. It would be nice if we could all turn a blind eye to politics & trust the people who are supposedly working on our behalf but unfortunately we can't these days. There is always someone willing to sell out the majority for personal gain. I'm proud to live in Canada. It is the greatest place to live.....lets keep an eye on the people in parliament that are supposed to keep it that way.
We may not be able to stop electronic monitoring, in fact its already too late ....but now is the time to create the laws that limit its use & the infringement on privacy & freedom. We need laws in place to insure that we aren't lured into using it. We need laws that prevent your privacy to be traded for financial gain, for discounts, for perks. We need to stomp it out now before it gets out of hand. Time is running out. The longer we do nothing, the more limited the options we have.

Cell phones & driving outlawed. Happy now? Whats next ?

So my fellow Canadians, you've preached hard with pom-poms held high about the dangers of talking or texting on your mobile phone while driving. After all, your incapable of using common sense & doing it safely, how could anyone else? There can be no gray area, its either safe or dangerous right?

Well I would like to congratulate all of you who supported these new laws banning phones & iPods from use while behind the wheel. Your wish has come true.....and as I had brought up in an earlier posting months ago, be careful what you wish for because you have opened up a bigger can of worms than you bargained for.

Non the less its because of concerned, dexterity lacking individuals who were in favor of these new laws that we now don't need common sense to drive a car anymore. We have given our government full control of what is best for us so we don't have to make those challenging common sense choices... the right to tell us what we can & can't do in our own vehicle has now been taken to a whole new level. Government will decide whats best for us because ....you have decided we aren't capable. Safety 1st right?

So....since we've come this far, now that the government has started down this path....it would be irresponsible for them to ignore other distractions right?

Are you a dog lover?

Are you a music lover?

Are you a coffee drinker?

Are you an idiot behind the wheel?

Or how about just disabling these devices automatically without your consent?...
D.O.T. exploring technology that would disable cell phones in cars

So people.....unless you want to be wearing a helmet behind the wheel, you have to make a choice before this gets out of hand....and don't kid yourself, it will get out of hand if you people don't wake up. The government loves an excuse to fine you & increase its revenue. They are more than happy to create new laws.

Take responsibility for your own actions, don't blame gadgets. Demand that drivers testing be challenging & realistic in a worst case scenario aka rush hour.
Make defensive driving courses mandatory. You want people to start taking public transit? You want less cars on the road? Don't give bad drivers a license to operate a motor vehicle! Force them to use other means of transportation. Toughen up the standards. .... as a result... reducing road congestion & traffic jams, reducing accidents, reducing carbon emissions, reducing auto insurance rates. Get rid of the cell phone ban, get our freedom back.

Distractions are a normal part of healthy, every day life. Learn to live with them and make smarter choices, asses the risks involved with the actions you take. Stop begging the government to create stupid laws without considering the future implications from every angle. Don't sell out one inch of freedom because they will always take a mile.
