You know its time to change Canadian laws when the criminal has more rights than the victim.

Doesn't this make you sick?

Not guilty pleas from man who attacked break and enter suspect - 660News

"Not guilty pleas have been entered by the man charged with assault after he allegedly hit a break and enter suspect with a hatchet at his Taber, Alberta, acreage.

Joseph Singleton's lawyer, Douglas Carle, tells 660News his client had no choice but to plead not guilty because the crown did not withdraw the two assault charges.

"But for whatever reason they've determiend that they wish to proceed," says Carle, "that they feel that Mr. Singleton wasn't justified in his actions in defending his home and his family. So yes I'm extremely shocked with the circumstances."

Carle adds the Crown is trying to make a point with this case.

"The Crown's case is based 100%, nothing more, nothing less, than the statement of the criminal who is the alleged victim in this case," Singleton's lawyer continued. "So, like I say, I think they are trying to make a point. But the point they're making is ... I guess I'm a little bit lost on what value of the point they're trying to make is."

Carle says the legal wrangling is taking a toll on the family.

"They're holding up terribly," says Carle. "In essence they've been victimized a second time, and this time with the assistance of the Crown." "

What is the delay in making criminals accountable?
